Not exactly robotics but lip-reading is certainly one wide step further up towards mutual understanding throughout different languages.

Our suggestion: to develop a sign-reading device interfacing communication with deaf people.

As we are at it, then connect it to an upper limb exoskelton, allowing anybody to sign-speak clearly...
